Qatar Participates in UN Session on Existential Threats From Sea-Level Rise

Qatar participated in the high-level plenary meeting on addressing the existential threats posed by sea-level rise, held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Qatar was represented at the meeting by HE Sheikha Hanouf bint Abdulrahman Al Thani, Director of the International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In a statement during the meeting, Her Excellency stressed the importance of strengthening multilateral climate action. She highlighted Qatar's efforts to support climate action, including hosting the Qatar National Dialogue on Climate Change in 2025 and the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

She explained that Qatar continues to implement the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 by supporting clean and renewable energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and protecting and restoring ecosystems. She also highlighted several national projects, including the Al Kharsaah Solar Power Plant.

Her Excellency stressed the importance of supporting countries most affected by climate change and strengthening their ability to adapt. She noted Qatar's contribution of USD 100 million to support small island developing states and least developed countries in confronting climate change and environmental challenges.

HE Sheikha Hanouf bint Abdulrahman Al Thani, Director of the International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, renewed Qatar's commitment to constructive participation in international efforts to confront climate change and its effects, and to strengthening multilateral cooperation to protect the environment and achieve sustainable development.
