Qatar Rejects Netanyahu's Claim of Influence Campaign Against Israel

Qatar has categorically rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's accusation that the State of Qatar is conducting a campaign to influence public opinion against Israel, following remarks made during his address to the United Nations General Assembly.

Dr Majed Al Ansari said the continuing rhetoric against Qatar was an attempt to divert attention from what he described as atrocities committed by Netanyahu's government in the occupied Palestinian territories and their grave humanitarian consequences.

Al Ansari rejected attempts to attribute the growing shift in global public opinion, particularly among young people, to alleged influence campaigns. He said such claims disregard the awareness and judgement of a generation witnessing events on the ground in real time and forming its own views accordingly.

He said Netanyahu and other Israeli politicians whom he described as extremist, and who increasingly find themselves addressing empty halls, should change their policies, respect international law and take responsibility before the people who elected them if they want Israel to be viewed differently internationally.

Al Ansari added that holding Qatar or others responsible for changes in global public opinion shaped by what people themselves are witnessing was no longer persuasive. He said the repeated attacks on Qatar could only be understood as efforts to divert attention from political responsibility for policies and practices on the ground while using Qatar as part of domestic political calculations.
