The State of Qatar, represented by its Permanent Delegation to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), participated in the meetings of the One Hundred and Thirty-eighth Session of the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) (C 138), which was held at the Organization's headquarters in London, the British capital, from 2 to 6 November 2026. This participation comes within the framework of the State of Qatar's keenness to enhance international cooperation and support the efforts of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to develop the maritime transport sector, enhance the safety and security of maritime navigation, and ensure the sustainability and efficiency of international maritime transport.
During its meetings, the Council discussed a number of administrative, organizational and strategic topics related to the work of the Organization, including enhancing the efficiency of the Organization's performance, and discussing the challenges associated with protecting vital shipping lanes, and ensuring freedom of navigation and the safety of seafarers, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea regions.
The State of Qatar's participation in these meetings reflects its interest in continuing cooperation with IMO member states, and supporting international efforts aimed at protecting sea lanes and promoting freedom of navigation and the safety of seafarers, in a way that contributes to achieving security, stability and sustainability of the international maritime transport sector.
