Qatar Philharmonic to Celebrate Mexican and Canadian Music in Years of Culture Concerts

Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra will celebrate the musical heritage of Mexico and Canada with two concerts presented as part of the Qatar Canada and Mexico 2026 Year of Culture.

The Years of Culture concert series will begin with "Sounds of Mexico" on September 18, led by Mexican conductor Enrique Arturo Diemecke, followed by "Sounds of Canada" on November 7 under conductor Charles Olivieri-Munroe.

The "Sounds of Mexico" concert will take audiences on a journey through the country's musical landscape, offering an opportunity to discover and celebrate its orchestral heritage through cultural exchange. The performance also marks Diemecke's return to Qatar after conducting Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra in Doha in September 2025 and later leading more than 70 of its musicians during the orchestra's debut at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.

The "Sounds of Canada" concert will highlight works by Canadian composers, including Oskar Morawetz, presenting an orchestral tradition shaped by the movement of people and ideas across borders.

The two performances form part of the wider Qatar Canada and Mexico 2026 Year of Culture, a year-long programme connecting the three countries through initiatives spanning exhibitions, design, film, sport, heritage, education and community exchange. The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra concerts add a musical dimension to that cultural dialogue.
