Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar is planting over 4,400 trees along both sides of the Shamal Highway between DFC and Al Khor.
Project Manager at the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar Eng. Jassim Abdulrahman Fakhroo noted the importance of initiative lies in the location of the project.
He explained that Al Shamal Road is one of the vital routes in Qatar’s highway network which connects several destinations and residential neighborhoods.
“Planting trees and increasing green areas in Qatar are among major tasks of the Committee aimed at enhancing the quality of life and improving the overall aesthetic appearance of the country,” he added.

The Committee aims to plant 4,477 trees along 23 km of Al Shamal Road in both directions. The majority of the tree species, such as the Sidr tree and Acacia Arabica, are native to Qatar and are compatible with the local environment.
Characterized by their tolerance to dry climatic conditions, these species were chosen because they require less water and maintenance.
95 percent of the tree plantation is complete and the project is estimated to be delivered by the third quarter of 2021.
Connection to treated sewage effluent (TSE) pipes for irrigation is also part of the project's scope, as is the provision of shaded areas on both sides of Al Shamal Road
Ashghal has just completed the construction of service roads along the 200-kilometer Al Shamal Road, which runs from the north section of Doha city's Duhail Interchange to Al Shamal City in the state's northern tip.
