Sidra Medicine, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, announced Qatar Precision Health Institute’s participation as a strategic partner and co-organizer of the Precision Medicine and the Future of Genomics (PMFG) Summit 2026, which will be held from December 7 to 9. For the second consecutive year, this partnership brings together two Qatar Foundation entities with complementary expertise in genomics, precision medicine and translational research.
As a strategic partner and co-organizer, Qatar Precision Health Institute (QPHI) will collaborate with Sidra Medicine in shaping the Summit’s scientific direction and strengthening its role in advancing precision health in Qatar and beyond. This year’s scientific program is built around four core areas: patient advocacy and next-generation therapeutics; building global reference genomes and strengthening the representation of the genetic diversity of populations across the Global South; AI-driven scientific discovery and the regulation of digital medicine; and delivering genomic medicine at scale through trusted biobanks, national programs and pediatric care.
Discussions will focus on ways to transform advances in genomics, artificial intelligence and precision medicine from research achievements into practical applications that make a tangible impact on clinical care and public health. Prof. Khalid Fakhro, Chief Research Officer at Sidra Medicine and Executive Chair of PMFG Summit 2026, said Qatar Precision Health Institute’s participation as a strategic partner and co-organizer reflects the strength of the collaboration between the two entities and its role in the Summit’s continued development.
He added: “Our organizations share a commitment to translating genomic discoveries into meaningful healthcare impact. QPHI’s population-scale genomics and multi-omics expertise complements Sidra Medicine’s clinical and research capabilities, connecting the full scientific research journey from discovery to personalized and preventive care.”
Dr. Emmanouil Dermitzakis, President of Qatar Precision Health Institute and Chair of the PMFG Summit 2026 Leadership Committee, said precision health in Qatar has made remarkable progress through a coordinated national strategy that QPHI is proud to lead, with Sidra Medicine serving as a key clinical partner. He continued: “The Precision Medicine and the Future of Genomics Summit allows us to showcase our journey and exchange expertise and knowledge with researchers and specialists from around the world.
In a field evolving this quickly, the open exchange of ideas and knowledge remains essential to continued progress and further achievement.” Dr. Ammira Akil, Principal Investigator and Director of the Metabolic and Mendelian Translational Research Program at Sidra Medicine and Managing Chair of PMFG Summit 2026, said the continuity of the collaboration with QPHI is particularly important because it enables both entities to build on what they have achieved together and develop a scientific program that connects research discoveries with their practical application in patient care.
She added: “This year, we deliberately expanded the participation of experts and researchers from the Global South because achieving equity in precision medicine requires the comprehensive representation of all populations in scientific research.”
She explained that QPHI’s expertise in genomics, data science and precision health has played a pivotal role in shaping this vision. PMFG Summit 2026 continues Sidra Medicine’s 12-year journey of advancing scientific dialogue and collaboration in precision medicine and genomics. The journey began in 2014, when Sidra Medicine hosted the first specialized precision medicine symposium in the Middle East.
The Summit will bring together clinicians, researchers, geneticists, data scientists and bioinformaticians, along with patient advocates, regulators, public health officials, policymakers, biotechnology innovators and industry partners.
