The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has reiterated that there has been no cases of bird flu registered in Qatar, reported Gulf Times.

The ministry said that the disease was closely and continuously monitored by the National Influenza Centre, which periodically scans samples to examine the types of viruses that are spread and to detect their strains and epidemiological patterns, according to The Peninsula.

The ministry’s food safety and environmental health departments follow up the epidemiological situation of animal health in all countries in co-operation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, and through the certified animal disease surveillance network.

The MoPH is also preparing a list of infected countries in order to ban import of foodstuff from there, reported Qatar Tribune.

As per the MME reports, periodic surveys have confirmed that the poultry sector is free from high intensity bird flu.

Careful monitoring of border crossings and sampling for analysis are done to verify safety.
