Adding to the list of countries it has been supporting throughout the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Qatar has sent urgent COVID-19 relief aid to Belarus.

The 7-tonne shipment was sent through Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) in implementation of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani's directives.

The shipment, which included medical equipment and protective gear to help against COVID-19, was delivered by Qatar Airways.

According to QFFD Director-General, Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari the medical assistance mirrors the great efforts Qatar has made to combat the spread of the pandemic that represents a common threat to the world.

So far, Qatar has come to the aid of more than 22 countries since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among these were China, Iran, Lebanon, Somalia, Tunisia, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, and Serbia, and several other friendly countries in need of assistance to help combat COVID-19.

The support reflects Qatar's contribution to international efforts to tackle the infectious disease, which poses a common threat to all countries in the world.

With the ambition to facilitate multilateral cooperation to effectively respond to COVID-19, Qatar recently joined hands with four other countries. These comprise Canada, Denmark, South Korea, and Sierra Leone, to launch a global forum, the Group of Friends of Solidarity for Global Health Security.

Meanwhile, health authorities in Qatar continue to implement the highest level of monitoring, detection, and management procedures to deal with the virus, and the public has been advised to follow certain measures to safeguard their health.

For any queries, or concerns related to COVID-19 in Qatar, the public can contact a 24/7 hotline set up by the Ministry. The hotline number is 16000 and is toll-free.

Here's everything you need to know about the virus, including ways to protect yourself.
