Qatar has once again extended a helping hand to Iran to help the country combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) sent a shipment containing 9 tonnes of urgent medical aid to Iran.

The shipment, which was delivered via an airlift of Qatar Airways planes, forms one of many shipments to be sent in phases, according to a statement by Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

His Excellency the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Iran Mohammed bin Hamad Al Hajri along with Undersecretary of the Iranian Health Ministry for International Cooperation Affairs, Jalal Naeli, and several Iranian officials awaited the shipment.

QFFD Director-General Khalifa Al Kuwari underlined that the medical aid complements Qatar’s great efforts to address the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has had negative impacts globally.

The support from Qatar reflects the country’s emphasis on solidarity and unification of efforts to tackle the pandemic that continues to be a global threat.

Under its wise leadership, Qatar has not hesitated to come to the aid of brotherly and friendly countries to play its part in limiting the spread of the pandemic.

Qatar's Ambassador in Tehran said that the shipment comes to complete the Qatari medical assistance since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Qatar has provided medical and humanitarian aid to over 88 countries across the globe, the country’s Government Communications Office (GCO) had specified earlier this year.

The combined aid from the Qatari government and non-government entities amounted to more than $256 million until April this year.
