Qatar and Spain have enjoyed strong bilateral relations for decades.

The two nations have worked closely to enhance ties in the domains of energy, economy, trade, education and culture, among others.

As Qatar and Spain continue to consolidate their longstanding relations, the foreign ministries of the two countries held a round of political consultations yesterday.

The session between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Spain was held using visual communication technology.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani chaired the Qatari side in the session, while the Spanish side was led by HE Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation Arancha, Gonzalez Laya.

The talks focused on bilateral cooperation as well as issues of common concern.

After the consultations, Qatar and Spain inked a deal on abolishing visa requirements for the holders of diplomatic, special and service passports between the two countries.

HE Qatar’s FM and his Spanish counterpart initialed the agreement.
