Qatar has always been a staunch supporter of the Palestinian people and their cause.
The country will continue to stand behind the people at the Gaza Strip and the West Bank with sincerity, said Qatar’s Advisory Council Speaker HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud.
Speaking during the 28th extraordinary session of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union in Cairo, Egypt, he said this was in line with a belief in Arab brotherhood and moral responsibility to stand with the oppressed, according to Gulf Times.
“Today, with all the sufferings of our brothers in Palestine and in light of our rupture and the fragmentation of our will, we witness frantic endeavours taking place to eliminate the Palestinian cause,” he said.
Qatar had earlier condemned Israel’s passing of the ‘Nation State Law,’ which the country says will promote racism and apartheid, making Palestinians outcasts in their own land.
The Shura Council Speaker said the Israeli occupation was inflicting all sorts of suppression on the Palestinian people such as collective punishment, economic siege, comprehensive war, imprisonment of children, youth, adults and women destruction of properties and demolition of houses, according to The Peninsula.
Al Mahmoud called for solidarity among Arabs and pleaded with them to not abandon the Palestinians in the face of injustice and aggression.
“The important question that should be raised at this emergency meeting is what’re we doing against this great injustice? We must know we wouldn’t have a role if we give up solidarity and values of cooperation and coordination of efforts in support of our brethren who defend themselves and us, so that they could face injustice and aggression,” he said, according to Qatar Tribune.
He said defending Jerusalem was a legitimate duty and standing with the Palestinians was the first line of defence.
He further said that those who were unable to do this should stop supporting enemies and stop discouraging the Palestinians from defending their rights.
