His Excellency Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met with the Lebanese President Michel Aoun in Beirut yesterday.
HE Sheikh Mohammed conveyed His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s greetings to President Aoun as well as HH’s wishes to the Lebanese people for more progress and prosperity.
HE the Minister also delivered the condolences from HH the Amir to the Lebanese President on the victims of the devastating Beirut Port Explosion that occurred on August 4, 2020.
President Aoun thanked HH the Amir for his constant support for Lebanon and acknowledged the speedy assistance from Qatar that came in the form of immediate relief aid following the explosion.

The Lebanese President sent his greeting for HH the Amir, wishing him health and happiness as well as more progress and development for the people of Qatar.
HE Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed Qatar’s solidarity with Lebanon as it faces the aftermath of the catastrophe.
Qatar is committed to stand by the brotherly Lebanese people in the reconstruction phase, HE the Minister underlined.
He added that Qatar will support efforts to help the Lebanese people overcome the humanitarian catastrophe and continue support in light of its economic crisis, given the aggravated COVID-19 pandemic.
"HH the Amir's directives are clear to study the projects affected by this explosion, and we are about to complete a study of rebuilding public schools in partnership with UNICEF, and rehabilitating some damaged hospitals in Lebanon," HE Sheikh Mohammed stated.

He also confirmed the existence of a pre-plan by Qatar to help the people of Lebanon to overcome the economic crisis before this explosion.
Qatar has views that will be discussed with the Lebanese government, he added.
During his visit to Lebanon, HE the Minister also held a number of meetings with several Lebanese officials including the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri, Caretaker Prime Minister Dr Hassan Diab, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Charbel Wehbe, leader of the Future Movement party Saad Hariri, governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon (Banque du Liban) Riad Salame, Grand Mufti of Lebanon Sheikh Abdul-Latif Derian, Cardinal Patriarch Moran Mor Bechara Boutros al-Rahi, Maronite Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, and secretary-general of the Lebanese Red Cross George Kittana.

HE Sheikh Mohamed also visited the site of the Beirut Explosion. He was briefed on the extent of losses at the port and the damage caused in the surrounding areas.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence in the Lebanese caretaker government, Zina Aker, and Qatar's ambassador to Lebanon Mohamed Hassan Jaber al-Jaber accompanied HE the Minister during the tour.
