Qatar Calendar House (QCH) has announced that Ramadan 2023 might tentatively begin on March 23, based on accurate astronomical predictions. The Holy Month is predicted to fall on Thursday, March 23, as the month of Shaban ends on Wednesday, March 22.
Sheikh Abdullah Al Ansari Complex’s executive Director, Engineer Faisal Mohammed Al Ansari noted that the crescent of Ramadan of 1444 Hijri will be born on Tuesday, which falls on March 21 at 8.24 pm Doha local time. Thereby, the crescent of the holy month would be impossible to see in the Qatar skies on the evening of the investigation day (Thursday) because the crescent will not have been born out of sunset on that particular day.

The Arabic Hijri months—their start and end—are reliant on the movement of the Moon in its orbit around the Earth as opposed to the Gregorian months that depend on movement of Earth in its orbit around the Sun.
The final announcement on the confirmed commencement of the Holy Month of Ramadan 1444 AH will depend on the announcement by the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affair’s Moon Sighting Committee. Their announcement will signal the beginning of the month in the State of Qatar.
