Qatar has launched extensive cleanliness, sanitization and disinfection drives in light of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and to limit the spread of the infection among the wider population.

Qatar Museums (QM) has announced that together with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) it has initiated a campaign to sanitize and disinfect its museums and parks.

The campaign complements Qatar's precautionary and preventive measures to curb the spread of the virus.

The campaign sees sanitization, spraying and disinfection work targeting buildings, internal streets, parking areas, parks and playgrounds at the National Museum of Qatar, the Museum of Islamic Art, the Fire Station: Artist in Residence.

Commenting on the initiative, the CEO of Qatar Museums Ahmad Al Namla, said, "Thanks to the support and in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, the sanitization campaign of our museums has been achieved in line with the preventive measures taken by the state to control the spreading of this emerging virus."

"As we are facing this unprecedented situation, it is paramount to help stop the spread of coronavirus and ensure the health and safety of our society," he said.

"So while our museums remain closed, QM has taken steps to give access to our galleries, collections, and programs through digital platforms, in order to continue to fulfill our critical mission, virtually, of providing places for respite, education, and inspiration," Al Namla added.

Meanwhile, officials from different municipalities in Qatar are engaged in running awareness and inspection campaigns and continue to monitor the implementation of health and safety conditions by the workers at food establishments.
