The United Arab Emirates, along with Saudi Arabia, has played a significant part in starting and sustaining the illegal siege of Qatar.
The malicious campaign carried out by their state media has only helped degenerate an already tense situation.
But now, the country has started to feel the heat themselves after a group of rights activists launched an international campaign to boycott the UAE due to its discriminatory laws, reported Qatar Tribune.
The campaign, called the International Campaign to Boycott UAE (ICBU), was launched at a think-tank workshop in Paris, attended by dozens of rights defenders, campaigners and victims of UAE’s discriminatory laws.
The ICBU is expected to start functioning as early as October 15, reported Gulf Times. Activists from Brussels, Berlin, London, Rome, Madrid, New York and Paris are set to take part in the campaign.
The campaign is being launched in the light of continued violations of human rights by the UAE, in addition to the war crimes committed in Yemen, as well as violations of workers’ rights.
The activists have pointed out that the UAE leads human trafficking and money laundering cases, and is a key supporter of terrorist groups in Syria and other parts of the Middle East.
They cited dozens of international and human rights reports that reveal the atrocities committed by the UAE, including the Human Rights Watch (HRW) annual report, which has strongly criticized the country’s human rights record, its clampdown on freedom of expression, its arbitrary detentions, and the torture and ill-treatment of prisoners.
The activists said their goal is to stop the war in Yemen, save humanity and stop slavery and human trafficking in the UAE.
Through this campaign, they will also strive to bring justice to Asian and non-Asian workers in the UAE.
