Qatar has made significant strides in its transformational journey to become an integrated digital society.
The country is currently hosting one of the largest ICT events, QITCOM 2019, which brings together local and international exhibitors, highlighting the latest smart technologies and innovations around the world.
One of the highlights of this prestigious event is the Smart City Expo Doha 2019, which is being held in Qatar for the first time.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) has partnered with Fira Barcelona – the organizer of the international benchmark event, Smart City Expo World Congress, to host the Smart City Expo Doha 2019.

The event kicked off yesterday and will run until today at the Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC).
His Excellency Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani and the President of Rwanda Paul Kagame inaugurated the Smart City Expo on Wednesday.
The exhibition aims to introduce innovative technology to improve the lives of citizens, residents, and visitors through achieving social inclusion, sustainability, and empowerment.
During the even, Smart City experts will explore possible solutions to the challenges cities are facing nowadays through innovation and new technologies that are advancing the urban future.
The opening ceremony of Smart City Expo saw the attendance of several ministers and experts in the technological and communication sectors.
While delivering a speech at the opening ceremony, HE the Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Seif Ahmed Al Sulaiti underlined the significance of the Smart City Expo in delivering solutions to help cities around the world tackle present-day challenges through innovative technology.
“By relying on smart technology, Qatar has already begun achieving tangible results at different levels, which have helped improve the infrastructure, healthcare and education sectors. Qatar is also using the latest tech solutions in major outlets such as Hamad Port and Hamad International Airport,” HE Al Sulaiti is quoted to have said by Qatar Tribune.
Furthermore, HE the Minister congratulated Kagame and his country’s milestones in the fields of digitalization.
"Our two countries are united by two main and influential factors: visionary and committed leaders, represented by the leadership of the both countries; and the accelerated pace of development, thanks to smart investment in infrastructure, enhancing the investment climate, and the continued support by the state for companies and institutions from the government and private sectors to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals,” HE Al Sulaiti said, according to Gulf Times.

President Kagame also acknowledged Rwanda’s partnership with Qatar in the field of smart cities, "especially that both countries are among the top 10 globally in the future vision and speed of response to address its requirements."
HE the Minister of Finance Ali Sharif Al Emadi, HE the Minister of State and Ooredoo Group chairman Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohamed bin Saud Al Thani, and HE the Minister of State and Qatar Free Zones Authority chairman Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Sayed also attended the event.
