When you go towards the Industrial Area, if you feel the traffic has become a bit less congested, then that feeling is absolutely right.
The smoother ride has been made possible due to the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) opening up the underpass on East Industrial Street to Industrial Road interchange on June 1, reported The Peninsula.
Combined with the recently opened flyover on Industrial Area Road, the new underpass has significantly improved the traffic in the area and provided free flow traffic in the two main directions of the interchange.
The opening of the new underpass, which stretches for one kilometre and comprises three lanes in each direction, marks the completion of the main construction works on East Street 33 Interchange, which will replace the roundabout known as Al Watan Petrol Station roundabout, reported Qatar Tribune.
The East Street 33 Interchange is one of the five most important interchanges on Rawdat Al Khail Street Extension Project due to its location.
Meanwhile, Ashghal is in the final stages of building an at-grade signalised intersection which will enable multiple traffic flow movements. The signalised intersection is at the final phase of the East Street 33 Interchange and is expected to be completed by July.
Ashgal warned that traffic movement could be slightly restricted until its completion.
The project aims to provide direct access to the Industrial Area and link it to Doha city. It will also connect the F-Ring Road with the wholesale Market Street and Mesaimeer Road.
The project serves a vital area comprising a large number of commercial and residential properties such as Barwa Commercial Avenue, which stretches along the project, in addition to the residential areas in Abu Hamour, Ain Khalid and Umm Al Saneem in the north.
Rawdat Al Khail Street Extension project also includes the construction of 30 kilometre of pedestrian and cycling lanes and Barwa City access (Barwa Directional Tunnel), a unidirectional tunnel with a total length of 650M and 2 lanes.
