Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has opened two new ultramodern wound advanced care units that are manned by extremely skilled surgeons and professionals. The said units are located at Hamad General Hospital (HGH) and Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital (HMGH), according to the latest press release on HMC’s official website.

HMC also announced the same with a video tweet on Twitter.  HMC's Deputy Chair of Surgery Department. Dr. Mohammed Al Akkad quotes that the advanced wound care section is under the management of HMC’s Surgery Department, and has been established in accordance with instructions of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH).

The Minister of Public Health, HE Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari has approved the opening of the new units in view of the rising demand for wound care services caused by road traffic accidents. The number of podiatric (related to the ankle/foot/lower limbs) wounds among the diabetic population has also propelled the need for advanced wound care. Additionally, there is also the need to have specialized care for the diverse and complex range of orthopedic and urgent surgery wounds.

Dr. Akkad shared that the new units are manned by a multi-disciplinary team to initiate and administer specialized care to patients, ranging from dermatologic, vascular, surgical, diabetic, and endocrine care. The exceptionally high standards of quality and safety protocols at the new facilities are expected to reduce any kind of patient complications.

The Head of Wound Care, Dr. Rashad Al Fiqi, also shared the various advanced techniques that are anticipated to be deployed in the wound care units for special treatments. The use of controlled pressure ‘jet water’ for cleaning of wounds; use of high-frequency sound waves to remove dead tissue; and Negative Pressure Wound Therapy are some of the progressive surgical developments to be used at the new units.

This initiative is in line with HMC's vision to provide the highest quality of healthcare to the community iin Qatar and also keep up with the latest global advancements in medical care.
