United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is taking the lead in helping solve the illegal siege of Qatar, which has been in place since June 5.

The top official started his Gulf Tour and will visit all countries involved in the almost three-month-long diplomatic dispute in the region.

Although Qatar had received help from the International Civil Aviation Organisation, a part of the United Nations, this is the first time the global peacekeeping body has been directly involved in the lifting of the blockade.

The UN chief is expected to arrive first in Kuwait, Guterres's spokesman Stephane Dujarric told a Press conference in New York. In Kuwait, he will meet the Emir and other senior officials to discuss the situation in the region.

The UN Secretary-General's visit follows multiple efforts to end the blockade against Qatar.

It is as yet unclear what impact the UN top official’s visit will have on the feuding neighbours, but his visit comes following American attempts to exert pressure on the blockading countries to end the siege on their neighbour.
