Saqr Al-Suwaidi, weather forecaster at the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), has issued a public advisory regarding a significant shift in weather conditions. Strong northwesterly winds are set to sweep across the country, bringing a noticeable decline in temperatures and an increased wind-chill factor.

Current Conditions & Recent Observations

Following a period of cloudy skies and scattered thundershowers, a dust wave originating from the northern Arabian Peninsula has reduced horizontal visibility. This transition marks the arrival of a cold front characterized by:

  • Intense Winds: Active northwesterly gusts are expected to persist through today.
  • Temperature Variance: Recent lows have ranged from 13°C in Al-Sheehaniya to 18°C in Doha. Notably, temperatures as low as 6°C were recorded earlier this month in Mesaieed.
  • Perceived Cold: The "feels like" temperature is significantly lower than recorded figures due to high wind speeds.

Marine Warning

Marine warnings remain strictly in effect. While the probability of thunderstorms is decreasing, offshore conditions remain hazardous:

  • Wave Heights: Ranging from 4 to 10 feet.
  • Advisory: All marine activities should be suspended until the warning period concludes.

Safety Recommendations

To ensure public safety during this cold spell, the GCAA advises residents to:

  1. Dress Appropriately: Wear heavy winter clothing to mitigate the effects of the wind chill.
  2. Stay Informed: Monitor official updates via GCAA’s verified digital platforms.
  3. Plan Ahead: Verify the latest forecasts before scheduling any outdoor or travel activities.
