MOI Warns of Legal Action as Regional Rumors Rise

The Ministry of Interior (MOI) has issued an urgent public notice reinforcing the strict legal consequences for circulating unverified information, as a wave of sophisticated phishing scams and regional misinformation targets residents in Qatar.

Cracking Down on Digital Rumors

In a statement released via its official social media channels, the Ministry emphasized that spreading rumors or "forwarded" unverified news is a direct violation of Qatar’s cybercrime laws. Authorities clarified that security teams are monitoring digital platforms 24/7 to safeguard public order.

Under Qatari law, individuals found guilty of broadcasting or republishing false news with the intent to stir public opinion or harm national interests can face significant penalties.
