The Amiri Diwan has announced the funeral arrangements and official mourning period following the passing of His Highness the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

The funeral prayer will be held after Maghrib prayer on Sunday, July 12, at the Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque in Doha. Following the prayer, the late Father Emir will be laid to rest at Lusail Cemetery.

The Amiri Diwan also announced that His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, will receive condolences from heads of state, members of the ruling family, dignitaries and citizens at Lusail Palace on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (July 13, 14 and 15).

Condolence timings will be from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM, and again from after Asr prayer until Isha prayer each day.

In honour of the late Father Emir, the Amiri Diwan has declared four days of national mourning, beginning Sunday, July 12, 2026.

During the mourning period, ministries, government agencies, public bodies and institutions will suspend work starting Monday, July 13, with employees returning to work on Sunday, July 19, 2026.

The Amiri Diwan also announced that flags will be flown at half-mast across the country throughout the mourning period.

The statement concluded with prayers for the late Father Emir, asking Allah to grant him mercy and Paradise, and reciting the verse: "Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return."
