Asian Games: Qatar House in Nagoya Celebrates Team Qatar's 3x3 Basketball Silver

Qatar's delegation participating in the 20th Asian Games "Aichi-Nagoya 2026", currently being held in Japan and continuing until October 4, celebrated the achievement of the Team Qatar men's 3x3 basketball champions after they won the silver medal, adding a new accomplishment to Qatar's sporting record at the Games.

The celebration, held at "Qatar House in Nagoya", was attended by HE Mohammed Yousef Al Mana, First Vice-President of the Qatar Olympic Committee; HE Jassim bin Rashid Al Buainain, Secretary-General of the Qatar Olympic Committee; Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al Thani, Director of the Sports Sector at the Qatar Olympic Committee; and Dr Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Buainain, Director-General of the Organising Committee for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, alongside the members of Qatar's 3x3 basketball team.

The silver medal followed an impressive campaign by Team Qatar in the competition. The team overcame Iran in the semi-final before losing to South Korea in Friday's final.

Qatar's men's 3x3 basketball team was represented by Mohammed Hashem, Hamad Yassin, Nizar Mahmoud and Mubarak Jama.

The 3x3 basketball silver raised Team Qatar's medal tally at "Aichi-Nagoya 2026" to five medals, comprising "two golds, two silvers and one bronze". The other medals were the two golds won by the shooting team in the skeet competitions and the silver and bronze secured by the karate team.

The Qatar Olympic Committee continues to celebrate Team Qatar athletes who achieve success at the 20th Asian Games "Aichi-Nagoya 2026" by hosting them at "Qatar House" in Nagoya and highlighting the results they record during the Games.

"Qatar House" is being held under the slogan "The Place Is Yours" at the TIAD Nagoya Hotel. It allows visitors to engage with the activities it hosts and provides an interactive sporting and cultural experience introducing Qatar's culture, heritage, sporting journey and achievements. It will continue welcoming visitors throughout the Games, which run until October 4.

Saadoun Sabah Al Kuwari, Secretary-General of the Qatar Basketball Federation and head of the basketball delegation, expressed his happiness at Qatar's 3x3 team winning the silver medal, while noting that everyone had aspired to claim gold.

He explained that the final against South Korea was difficult because the opposing team possesses considerable ability and experience. He added that Qatar's players delivered good performances and made a major effort throughout the match and the tournament.

Yassin Ismail, Director of the National 3x3 Basketball Teams, also expressed his happiness at winning the Asian Games silver medal. He considered reaching the final and finishing second an important achievement for basketball, although the ambition had been to win gold.

He said winning the silver medal for the second consecutive Asian Games confirms that Qatari basketball is moving in the right direction and has a group of players capable of competing at continental events.

Player Mohammed Hashem expressed his happiness at winning the silver medal, which followed considerable effort and work during the previous period. He noted that some minor details and a lack of fortune prevented the team from achieving its intended objective and claiming gold.

Player Hamad Yassin also expressed satisfaction with Team Qatar's performance during the Asian Games, confirming that the team had aspired to win the gold medal, but South Korea's strength and experience decided the final.

In other competitions, Qatar's "Qatar 2" beach volleyball team, comprising Mousa Al Khair and Ihab Mohammed, will face Thailand on Saturday in an important match concluding Group Four at the 20th Asian Games "Aichi-Nagoya 2026".

The result will be important for the Qatari team, as victory would give it first place in the group and extend its winning run after it secured qualification for the Round of 16.

"Qatar 2" enters the match in high spirits following its positive group-stage results, having defeated South Korea and Sri Lanka in the first and second rounds.

In swimming, Friday's events featured Team Qatar athletes in the "freestyle and butterfly" races. The leading result was achieved by Team Qatar swimmer Saad Al Din Saad Al Din, who qualified for the 400-metre freestyle final after recording 3:55.48 in the heats, before finishing fifth in the final with a time of 3:49.71. In athletics, Team Qatar runner Ammar Ibrahim qualified for the 400-metre final on Friday after finishing second in the heats in 45.31 seconds.

He is scheduled to compete in the final on Saturday with high ambitions of winning a medal despite the strength and difficulty of the race.

Runner Ashraf Othman finished fourth in the 400 metres with a time of 45.93 seconds. Elsewhere, Team Qatar hammer throw champion Ashraf Al Saifi recorded his best personal result of the season after throwing 71.41 metres in the event final at the 20th Asian Games in Japan on Thursday.

Al Saifi placed fifth in the hammer throw final at the "Aichi-Nagoya 2026" Asian Games, finishing 2.97 metres behind Uzbekistan's Sukhrob Khodjayev, who won the gold medal.

Finally, in equestrian sport, Jassim Al Kuwari and Saud Al Buainain participated in the "dressage" competition, which provided an important opportunity to test their abilities and assess their readiness before the official individual competitions begin on Saturday.

Al Kuwari recorded 65.559 points, while Al Buainain achieved 66.412 points. The individual "dressage" competition will take place on Saturday, with the riders seeking the best possible results. The top 15 riders qualify for the final, and the Team Qatar pair hope to deliver strong performances and establish a prominent presence in the competition.

Rider Jassim Al Kuwari confirmed that he was satisfied with his participation in Friday's "dressage" competition, but stressed that his focus was firmly on the individual event and that he hoped to achieve the best possible results.

Hassan Al Nasr, Director of Qatar's national equestrian team, also expressed satisfaction with the participation of Team Qatar riders Jassim Al Kuwari and Saud Al Buainain in Friday's "dressage" competition. He described the start as satisfactory and said the results reflected their readiness and provided reassurance ahead of Saturday's competition, expressing hope that the pair would excel and qualify for the final.
