Fancy a kickabout or a basketball run in Doha without committing to a full sports-club membership?
You have a few options: join an organised pick-up game as an individual, sign up for an amateur league, or gather your own group and rent a pitch or court.
For newcomers, the easiest route is usually pick-up sport, because you don't need to find 10 friends first.
Here's where to look for casual football and basketball in Doha in 2026, what current games cost, and how the different options work.
Three ways to play casual sport in Doha
Before choosing a venue, know what you're booking.
1. Pick-up game
You register as one player and the organiser puts the game together.
This is the best option if you're new to Qatar, don't already have a team or simply want to play occasionally.
2. Private pitch or court hire
You book the entire venue and bring your own players.
This often works out cheaply per person if you can fill the team.
3. Amateur league or tournament
You join or enter a team for organised fixtures.
These are more structured than pick-up games but still cater to non-professional players.
Best option if you're new: Qatar Footballers United
One of the clearest active casual-football options is Qatar Footballers United on Meetup.
The group currently has more than 1,600 members and organises friendly 9-a-side football at the University of Doha for Science and Technology.
Current games cost:
QAR 20 per player for one hour
Bibs and balls are provided, and the games welcome players from beginner to more experienced levels.
As of 6 October 2026, the group's current Meetup page shows upcoming games on 7, 9 and 11 October, making this a genuinely active option rather than an old directory listing.
For someone who has just moved to Doha, this is much more useful than renting an entire QAR 300 pitch.
Another low-cost football option
A separate Meetup group, New Weekly Soccer Qatar, has advertised social 7v7 football at Sherborne School Al Rayyan for:
QAR 15 per player
with Wednesday evening games open to different skill levels.
However, its page currently shows no upcoming fixtures, so check for a fresh event before relying on it.
Apps for joining football and basketball games
Two Qatar-focused platforms are particularly useful if you don't have your own team.
Sports Social
Sports Social says its Qatar app currently supports organised:
- Football
- Basketball
- Padel
The platform is designed specifically to let individuals join matches, tournaments and social sports events rather than forcing them to organise an entire group themselves.
Plus 1 Sports
Plus 1 Sports is another Qatar-focused app built around finding and joining games.
Its current app description includes:
- Football
- Basketball
- Padel
- Tennis
- Volleyball
- Other organised sessions
Players can browse games by sport, location, date, skill level and other criteria and join available sessions through the app.
For newcomers, these apps are generally a better starting point than randomly turning up at a paid court and hoping someone needs an extra player.
Where to rent a football pitch in Doha
If you already have enough players, booking your own pitch can be economical.
Evolution Sports Qatar — Doha College, Al Wajba
Evolution Sports Qatar rents sports facilities at Doha College's Al Wajba campus.
Current published rates include:
- 3G football pitch: QAR 200–400 per hour
- Indoor sports hall: QAR 150 per hour
- Indoor sports hall with seating: QAR 150 per hour
- Outdoor Multi-Use Games Area: QAR 100 per hour per court
The main 3G pitch can be divided for games ranging from approximately 6v6 to 11v11.
If 10 players split a QAR 200 pitch, that's:
QAR 20 each
At QAR 400, the same group pays QAR 40 each.
This is a private facility booking, though — not an organised pick-up game.
Doha Sports Park — natural grass football
For players who want natural grass, Doha Sports Park operates inside Doha Golf Club.
The venue offers:
- Four 11-a-side grass pitches
- 7-a-side grass pitches
- A 7-a-side 4G cage
Current live booking pages show selected 11-a-side grass slots at QAR 325 per 30 minutes.
Current 7-a-side grass availability shows:
QAR 240 per 30-minute slot
on bookable pitches.
That means a one-hour grass booking can become significantly more expensive than smaller artificial pitches elsewhere, so this is better suited to a larger group or a one-off organised match.
Basketball: where to find casual games
Basketball works a little differently from football in Doha.
There are public courts where informal games develop, alongside apps and organised leagues.
Crescent Park, Lusail
Crescent Park - South (Block 1) is one of the places repeatedly recommended by local players looking for casual basketball.
Recent Qatar community discussions in September 2026 specifically mention pick-up basketball at Crescent Park, with players suggesting evenings from around 6pm onwards as a better time to find others.
This is informal community information, not a guaranteed scheduled session.
If you want certainty, use a pick-up app or organised group instead.
Al Bidda Park
Al Bidda Basketball Courts are another established public option in Doha.
Local basketball discussions regularly mention Al Bidda as a place to find outdoor courts, although the number of players present varies by day, weather and time.
Again, don't promise readers that a pick-up game will definitely be running when they arrive.
Sports Vision: basketball league rather than cheap court hire
sportsvision.club in Lusail should stay in the guide, but for a different reason than the original draft.
The QAR 23–30 per-player price shown on court-booking websites applies to its padel courts, not to basketball. Playtomic currently identifies its two bookable outdoor courts as padel courts.
For basketball, Sports Vision hosts the V-League Basketball Tournament, an amateur competition aimed at non-professional residents.
According to Sports Vision, the V-League:
- Is open to Qatar residents
- Excludes professional Qatar Basketball League players
- Includes students, working professionals and hobby players
- Runs periodically throughout the year
- Takes place at its Lusail sports hall
The organisers say the competition has developed into a recurring tournament held approximately every three months.
So this is a better recommendation for someone looking for organised amateur basketball, rather than a casual QAR 25 court booking.
What about Al Arabi Sports Club?
Al Arabi Outdoor Basketball Court is a genuine basketball facility in the New Salata area, and older guides show community court rental there.
However, the widely repeated QAR 150–250 court rates come from older material, including promotions dating back to 2021.
I would therefore not publish a 2026 price unless Al Arabi confirms it directly.
You can keep the venue in the guide, but say:
Contact the club for current court availability and rental rates.
Indoor basketball when it's too hot outside
For private indoor basketball, Evolution Sports is one of the clearer options because it publishes a current rate.
Its indoor multi-sports hall costs:
QAR 150 per hour
and supports basketball, badminton, volleyball and other sports.
Do not use the QAR 100 figure for the indoor hall — that rate applies to the outdoor Multi-Use Games Area.
How to join a game when you don't know anyone
If you've just moved to Doha, use this order:
Option 1 — check Meetup
The Qatar pick-up football directory currently lists several groups and nearly 5,000 combined members, including Qatar Footballers United and other Doha football communities.
Option 2 — check Sports Social
Browse upcoming football or basketball sessions and register as an individual.
Option 3 — check Plus 1 Sports
Look for open games filtered by sport, time and location.
Option 4 — try public basketball courts
Crescent Park and Al Bidda are common community recommendations, particularly during cooler evening weather.
Option 5 — create your own group
Once you've met a few regular players, split a private venue booking each week.
How much should you budget?
Pick-up football
One of the clearest current prices is:
Qatar Footballers United — QAR 20 for one hour
Private football
At Evo:
QAR 200–400/hour
Split among 10 players:
QAR 20–40 each
Natural-grass football
At Doha Sports Park:
7-a-side grass — currently QAR 240 per 30 minutes on available slots
11-a-side grass — selected current slots QAR 325 per 30 minutes
Indoor basketball
At Evo:
QAR 150/hour for the sports hall
Split among 10 players:
QAR 15 each
These are much more useful planning figures than a generic “Doha pitches cost QAR 150–400,” because the type of facility makes a huge difference.
Best time to play outdoors
From roughly late autumn through early spring, outdoor football and basketball become much more comfortable in Qatar.
October evenings are already becoming more usable, but temperatures and humidity can still vary.
During hotter months, indoor halls or late-evening sessions make far more sense.
For public basketball courts, local players also report that evening sessions tend to attract more people than the middle of the day.
Do you need a permit to play?
For ordinary private recreational bookings or community pick-up games, you simply follow the venue or organiser's booking rules.
There is no reason to mention Metrash2 in this guide — the old app was discontinued in 2025, and normal recreational sports bookings are not an immigration-service transaction.
Public events, commercial tournaments or organised large-scale events may have their own venue and organiser requirements, but that is separate from a group of friends renting a football pitch.
Quick guide: which option suits you?
“I just moved here and know nobody”
Try Qatar Footballers United, Sports Social or Plus 1 Sports.
“I have 10 friends and want football”
Book a private pitch at Evolution Sports.
“We want proper grass”
Book Doha Sports Park.
“I want casual basketball”
Check Sports Social or Plus 1 Sports, or try community courts at Crescent Park or Al Bidda.
“I want organised amateur basketball”
Check the Sports Vision V-League.
