The organizing committee of the Gulf qualifying tournament for the FIBA U18 Asia Cup said the event will be held in Doha from July 25 to 30, after being postponed by a little over a week.
The tournament will serve as the official Gulf qualification event for the FIBA U18 Asia Cup, scheduled to take place in India in August. Five teams, including hosts Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman, will compete for three direct qualification spots to the continental championship.
The competition, which will be played in a single round-robin format, is expected to showcase the growing standard of youth basketball across the Gulf region.
Qatar will begin its campaign against Saudi Arabia on Sunday, July 26. They will then face Kuwait on July 27, Oman on July 29, and Bahrain on July 30.
The tournament’s opening game on Saturday, July 25, will see Kuwait take on Oman and Saudi Arabia clash against Bahrain.
Qualification for the FIBA U18 Asia Cup is significant as it is the final qualifying event for the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup. The Asia Cup’s top four teams will secure places at the global tournament, scheduled to be held in the Czech Republic from June 26 to July 4, 2027.
Qatar’s U18 national team are continuing their preparations in Doha after returning from a training camp in Yalova, Turkiye, recently.
