When the Expo 2023 Doha kicks off at the Al Bidda Park on October 2, it will create history by becoming the first A1 International Horticultural Exhibition in the entire Middle East and North Africa region.

The six-month-long event, which will run under the theme ‘Green Desert, Better Environment,’ will be hosted at special venues spanning a total of 1,700,000SqM.

The exhibition, in addition to pointing a spotlight on the diversity of the region’s agricultural products, will also feature a Farmers Market.

“The market is a space where farmers and growers can showcase their produce to the public and where attendees can chat with and support local businesses. International pavilions will also benefit from free space to sell their local agricultural produce of fruits and vegetables,” said the short description at Expo 2023 Doha’s official website.

Expo 2023 Doha will focus on innovations and techniques of modern agriculture, which combines traditional and modern technologies for a balanced use of resources.

While the Expo will primarily focus on enhancing farmers’ roles, it will also create a convergence of people and ideas to accelerate innovation, research and scientific advancements in the field of modern agriculture.

The Expo recently came one step closer to reality with the Italian pavilion’s First Stone ceremony, which marked the nation’s official commencement of preparations for the Doha event.

The ceremony, held at the Expo House recently, was attended by Italian Ambassador to Qatar HE Paolo Toschi — who laid the traditional first stone — and several other top officials.

Expo Doha 2023 recently created a buzz on social media when it called for at least 3,000 to 4,000 volunteers for the mega event. While details on how to apply are yet to be released, people are eagerly looking forward to it.

Expo 2023 Doha is expected to bring together nations, organisations and individuals from across the globe to explore new environmental and horticultural solutions.

Several Qatari companies and organisations have been joining hands with the Expo, Qatar Airways and the Hamad International Airport being two recent examples.

The Expo’s representatives also recently inked a cooperation deal with the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council, making it appealing to the GCC region.

Expo 2023 Doha’s National Committee Chairman and Minister of Municipality Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie officially received the event’s flag from 2019 organisers Beijing, China, during a spectacular ceremony.
