Ministry of Education and Higher Education Highlights Academic and Career Opportunities Through QIA Scholarship Programme

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education highlighted the academic and career opportunities offered by the Qatar Investment Authority Scholarship Programme to outstanding Qatari students in the scientific and technological tracks. The initiative supports promising national talent and prepares students in specialisations aligned with the needs and future direction of the national economy.

During an introductory session organised by the Ministry, students learned about the international universities included in the programme, available specialisations, admission criteria and the academic and financial benefits offered to scholarship recipients. They were also introduced to career pathways associated with these specialisations, helping them choose their university paths with a clear vision for their academic and professional futures.

Fatima Yousuf Al Obaidli, Assistant Director of the Department of School and Student Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, said cooperation with national institutions is a fundamental pillar of developing academic and career guidance services and providing students with wider opportunities to explore fields of study suited to their abilities, interests and labour market requirements.

She added that the Ministry places importance on guiding students towards early planning for their university paths and developing their language, personal and leadership skills, strengthening their readiness to benefit from high-quality scholarship programmes. She stressed the importance of these partnerships in preparing national talent capable of supporting the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.

Amna Ahmed Al Mazrouei, Executive Director of Human Resources at Qatar Investment Authority, said investing in Qatari youth is a strategic priority for preparing a generation equipped with the knowledge and experience required to participate effectively in the economic and investment sectors. She noted that choosing a university specialisation is a pivotal decision requiring an understanding of the available opportunities and the requirements of study and employment.

Mohammed Abdulaziz Al Horr, Treasury Director at Qatar Investment Authority, delivered an introductory presentation on the establishment of the Authority in 2005 and its role in managing the state's investments and growing its wealth through a diversified investment portfolio designed to generate sustainable returns and preserve financial resources for future generations.

Maryam Al Hammadi, Talent Development Officer at Qatar Investment Authority, reviewed the programme's admission criteria. She explained that the scholarship is available to Qatari students enrolled in their final year of secondary school, provided they achieve an academic average of at least 90 per cent, with International Baccalaureate and A-Level results converted into approved percentages.

Applicants must also obtain an overall score of at least 6.5 in the IELTS English-language test, with no individual skill score below 5, and the test must have been taken no more than 24 months earlier. They must also submit an unconditional university offer to study full-time for a bachelor's degree at an approved university and in an approved specialisation.

Required documents also include a national service clearance certificate for male students and a salary or pension certificate for the student's guardian. The scholarship covers tuition, registration fees and health insurance, while also providing monthly allowances, annual travel tickets, academic excellence rewards, training and professional development opportunities, and guidance and follow-up services throughout the study period.

Al Hammadi announced that the programme would be implemented in three phases. The first began in September 2026 and includes the University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, with a target of sponsoring five students.

The second phase will begin in September 2027 and target five scholarship recipients attending Tsinghua University and Peking University in China. The third phase will begin in September 2028 and include the National University of Singapore and Singapore Management University, with ten scholarship opportunities allocated.

The programme focuses on four principal fields: Accounting and Finance, Computer Science, Economics and Data Science. These fields are associated with the investment sector and economic and technological transformations.

Al Hammadi said the programme's gradual expansion would allow its outcomes to be assessed, its university partnerships to be developed and the academic performance of scholarship recipients to be monitored. This would help prepare qualified Qatari talent with the skills required to contribute to sustainable economic development.
