Public schools for primary, preparatory and secondary levels have started activating the educational cards developed during the Qatar Sustainability Lab 2026, which was held last week during the period (25-27 October 2026), as part of the participation of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, as a strategic partner in Qatar Sustainability Week 2026.
The school activation, which will continue until November 5, 2026, comes as a continuation of the laboratory stations, and a transition of training outputs and joint design to educational practice. It aims to promote learning for sustainability through applications derived from the topics of the Qatari curriculum, which are employed within the semester study plans, taking into account the learning outcomes and the requirements of each subject and educational stage.
These cards allow to link knowledge and values to everyday practices, enhance students' understanding of sustainability, and relate them to the pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030, which are human, social, economic, and environmental development. They also support the diversification of teaching strategies through interactive activities that give students opportunities to think, share, and apply what they learn in their daily lives.
One of the applications that was activated today was addressing the human and social dimension of sustainability within the lesson "Righteousness of Parents" in the Islamic education subject, through activities that link family values to daily behavior and social responsibility, in addition to employing interactive educational tools that support teamwork and presenting students' ideas, highlighting the possibility of investing curriculum topics in building a broader understanding of sustainability.
The activation targets the eight subjects: Islamic Education, Arabic Language, Social Studies, English Language, Science, Mathematics, Computing and Information Technology, and Visual Arts. These subjects are supported by extra-curricular activities within the Ministry's institutional participation, including the "Sabah and Sustainability Challenge" activity through school radio and the morning queue, in addition to exhibitions, recycling works, plays and awareness activities through various media to enhance students' participation in sustainable practices inside and outside the school.
In this context, Mr. Mohammed Yassin Al Hammadi, Principal of Qatar School of Banking and Business Administration for Boys, stressed that the school was keen to transfer the lab's outputs to the classroom, and to employ cards and modern teaching strategies in linking knowledge with values, skills and behaviors. He added: "Our goal is for sustainability to become a well-established culture in our school environment, not an activity associated with a specific occasion, and to contribute to the preparation of a generation capable of making conscious and responsible decisions that support sustainable development and the future of the State of Qatar."
For her part, Mrs. Hessa Al-Binali, Principal of Al-Huda Primary School for Girls, explained that the school has activated the cards inside the classrooms, in addition to extra-curricular activities and student initiatives, which link educational concepts to daily life practices. She added: "We are proud of the participation of our educational staff in quality national initiatives, and we are keen to transfer their outputs to the school field, in a way that contributes to the development of educational practices and achieving a sustainable educational impact."
Ms. Bashayer Al-Shahrani, Coordinator of Social Studies at Al-Huda School, pointed out that this experience allowed her to exchange experiences, develop ideas that link sustainability to the curriculum, and then apply them in the school, through cards, activities, and initiatives in which the students participated. "The lab may end with its training days, but its real impact begins when knowledge becomes practice, and practice becomes a sustainable culture," she said.
The implementation of the laboratory's outputs continues to be followed, and learning evidence and feedback from the educational field are being collected to benefit from them in the development of the cards and enhance the continuity of their use in daily learning, in addition to documenting distinguished practices, in preparation for honoring their owners within the activities of Qatar Environment Day in February 2027.
