Qatar’s Ministry of Interior, in a second follow-up post on X, said 54 people were injured in the explosion, caused by a technical malfunction, at a factory in the Ras Laffan Industrial Area on Sunday night, June 21. It said search-and-rescue operation personnel were trying to locate 18 missing people.

“The total number of injured in the incident that occurred at one of the factories in the Ras Laffan Industrial Area has reached 54 people, while the Qatari International Search and Rescue Group affiliated with the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), in cooperation with the Civil Defense teams, has launched search operations for 18 missing persons,” the MoI said in an early morning tweet.

The MoI had earlier said a technical malfunction had led to the explosion.

“In addition, the incident resulted from a technical malfunction during operations at one of the factories in the Ras Laffan Industrial Area. It led to a number of injuries, without any leakage occurring that poses a danger to individuals’ safety. The competent authorities are continuing to handle the incident,” it said.
