National Fencing Team Eyes First Asian Games Medal at Aichi-Nagoya 2026

The national fencing team is targeting its first Asian Games medal when it competes at the 20th Asian Games, Aichi-Nagoya 2026, in Japan from September 19 to October 4.

Nine fencers will represent Qatar as part of the national delegation, which includes 243 athletes competing across 26 sports and 32 disciplines.

The fencing team has undergone an intensive preparation programme ahead of the Games. The men's squad took part in an international training camp at Aspire Academy in August, while the women's squad completed an overseas camp in Italy. The team is also scheduled to complete its preparations with a final training camp in Tokyo.

The national team enters Aichi-Nagoya with ambitions to establish itself among Asia's leading fencing teams and compete for a place on the podium. Qatar has not yet won a fencing medal at the Asian Games, having first competed in the sport at the Doha 2006 edition.

Recent results have strengthened those ambitions. In October 2025, Qatar won silver in the team epee competition at the U23 Asian Championships in Kuala Lumpur, marking the first Asian medal in the history of Qatari fencing. The team also collected 12 medals at the 2025 West Asian Championships and continued its medal-winning form at regional competitions in 2026.

The Qatar Fencing Federation said the preparation programme has focused on raising the athletes' technical and physical readiness and providing opportunities to train alongside fencers from different European, Asian and Arab schools. The team will now look to translate that progress into its strongest Asian Games performance to date.
