IWF President Praises Organisation of Doha 2026 World University Weightlifting Championship

International Weightlifting Federation President Mohammed Jalood has praised the organisational and technical standards and strong opening of the Doha 2026 World University Weightlifting Championship, saying the level of competition on the first day was comparable to major international events in the sport.

Jalood highlighted the cooperation between the Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation, the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and the International Weightlifting Federation, saying it contributed to the successful opening day and helped provide an ideal environment for the participating athletes.

He described Doha's hosting of the championship as an important step towards returning weightlifting competitions to the university sports calendar. The university championship had not been held since its 2018 edition before returning through Doha in 2026.

Jalood also praised the technical level of the athletes, noting that several participants have previously won medals at world championships, adding further sporting value and raising the level of competition.

The IWF President also commended Doha's capabilities and experience in hosting major sporting events, as well as the technical and organisational resources provided for the championship. He said Qatar has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to stage sporting events to high organisational standards.
