Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani yesterday toured the Sabah Al Ahmed Corridor Project as its first phase nears opening.

The highly significant project, which will act as a vital artery of Qatar’s road infrastructure was officially launched early last year and drives forward Qatar’s journey toward improving road access to all parts of the nation.

The Corridor has been named after Kuwaiti Amir HH Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah and symbolizes the strength of the ties between the people of Qatar and Kuwait.

During his visit on Thursday, HE the PM reviewed the progress of the project thus far and was briefed on a number of aspects including the project's advantages, its integration with the Doha Metro network, and the project's landmarks.

The project comprises 32 bridges including the largest bridge in the country at 2.6 kilometers.

It also features Qatar's first cable-stayed bridge at a length of 1.2 kilometers in addition to nine tunnels. Part of these is the longest and deepest two-way tunnel with a length of 2.1 kilometers and a depth of 25 meters.

The Corridor will also facilitate access to the 2022 FIFA World Cup stadiums.

Several senior officials and engineers from Ashghal as well as members of the implementing companies joined HE the PM on the tour yesterday.

HE the PM hailed the project's progress and acknowledged the efforts of those in charge of it as well as their commitment to follow the timeline set for it.

HE also recognized Ashghal's dependence on local materials and national companies in the implementation of the project.

“We have completed 75 percent of Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor. Today I visited and looked closely at the progress of works,” HE the PM said in a tweet following the visit. 

"It will bring a qualitative addition to the modern road network in Qatar," he added.

“We continue relying on local materials and companies for the remaining works of this project and all other projects," HE the PM said.
