Qatar Football Association Confirms Sheikh Hamad As President Until 2027

The Qatar Football Association's Ordinary General Assembly has confirmed HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani as president and approved the appointment of HE Sheikh Dr Tamim bin Mohammed Al Thani as vice president until the next elective General Assembly in 2027.

The meeting was held on Thursday, September 10, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Doha and was attended by QFA Executive Committee members, the secretary general, representatives of member clubs, department directors, and committee heads and members.

The assembly also approved amendments to the QFA's statutes and rejected Al Dafna Sports Club's application for membership of the association.

As the 2027 General Assembly will be elective, members approved the renewal of the QFA Elections Committee. A short film highlighting the federation's recent activities was also screened during the meeting.

Members approved the minutes of the previous General Assembly, held on June 2, 2025, and the federation's activity report covering initiatives and activities carried out since that meeting. They also approved the audited financial statements for the 2025 financial year, the independent external auditor's report and the QFA budget for the 2026 financial year.

The assembly appointed members to review the meeting minutes and a committee to oversee the counting of ballots, completing a number of procedural and administrative matters in accordance with the QFA statutes.

In his closing remarks, Sheikh Hamad thanked Jassim bin Rashid Al Buainain and Mohammed Khalifa Al Suwaidi for their efforts and contributions during the previous period. He stressed the importance of continued co-operation and collective work to advance Qatari football at all levels.

He highlighted the central role of clubs in achieving the ambitions of the game and called for continued support to ensure steady progress. Looking ahead, he said greater attention should be given to youth categories, which he described as the foundation and true future of Qatari football.

Sheikh Hamad also stressed the importance of developing and supporting national football talent, particularly Qatari coaches, and giving them greater opportunities to take charge of the technical leadership of clubs. He expressed confidence in Qatar's football talent and said collective effort would remain central to the continued development and success of the game.
