Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari said Qatar, Oman and Pakistan were making constant efforts to facilitate engagement between Iran and the USA to bridge their viewpoints. He said the GCC states and other regional partners also remained in coordination to support a lasting settlement.
Al Ansari said the priority now was to contain escalation, reopen the diplomatic track, and bring the parties back to negotiations, stressing that Qatar does not set fixed timelines because success depends on how ready all sides are to reach an agreement.
On the Strait of Hormuz, he reaffirmed Qatar’s firm position in favour of freedom of navigation under international law and against any attempt to use the Strait as a tool of political pressure or for unilateral interests.
He said the minimum requirement at this stage is a return to the Strait’s previous status in line with international law, in coordination with all concerned states, and that any future arrangements for managing navigation must be based on consensus among all affected countries.
On Gaza, he said the mediators’ statement on Israel’s ongoing violations is meant to hold Israel responsible for implementing the ceasefire agreement in the Strip. He said efforts were continuing with a range of parties, especially the United States, alongside Qatar, Egypt and Türkiye, to ensure the swift implementation of the agreement’s second phase.
He added that the international community can clearly see which side is obstructing implementation, and that Hamas has fulfilled what was required, leaving Israel with clear outstanding obligations.
He also pointed to repeated Israeli procrastination since 2023, and the latest escalation that killed more than 30 people, describing it as another attempt to derail negotiations and block a peaceful solution.
He called for stronger international pressure to secure implementation, Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories, Gaza’s reconstruction and better humanitarian conditions for Palestinians who have suffered for more than two years.
He concluded by saying Qatar continued to keep international partners, including Russia, informed about the evolving regional situation, because the crisis extends beyond regional borders and requires broader coordination.
