has joined the Global Media Initiative for the Joint Development of AI Application Standards as one of its first partners. The announcement came during the official opening of the 7th World Media Summit in the Chinese capital, Beijing.
HE Director-General of Qatar News Agency (QNA) Ahmed bin Saeed Al Rumaihi represented the State of Qatar at the summit.
The summit was opened by Li Shulei, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee. The opening was attended by heads and representatives of news agencies and media organisations from around the world, alongside officials, experts and academics.
The initiative, launched by Xinhua News Agency, aims to strengthen cooperation on the responsible use of artificial intelligence in journalism under shared standards. It promotes the exchange of practices and experiences, joint verification, collaborative research and capacity building, enabling partners to contribute their capabilities and expertise to these shared efforts.
The global media cooperation framework arising from the initiative provides voluntary guidance for media organisations worldwide. Based on multilateral cooperation to promote the responsible use of artificial intelligence, it also allows all parties to contribute to its continued development and updating.
The initiative’s first partners included Qatar News Agency (QNA) and several Chinese media organisations, as well as TASS Russian News Agency, Vietnam News Agency, Russia’s Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper, the Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA), South Africa’s Independent Online, the La Nueva Televisión del Sur network, the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), Peru’s Andina News Agency, Uganda Broadcasting Corporation and Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP).
The summit, organised by Xinhua News Agency in cooperation with the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality from November 5 to 9, is discussing the future of the media industry amid rapid advances in artificial intelligence technologies. It is also addressing ways to strengthen international cooperation and exchange expertise in digital media and technological innovation.
