The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, will host a concert tomorrow (Tuesday) at the Drama Theater at the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara), with the participation of Colombian musicians, in an evening that highlights Colombian musical heritage and reflects the dimensions of international cooperation and intercultural dialogue.
The concert is held in collaboration between the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, the Embassy of the Republic of Colombia in the UAE, Qatar Music Academy and the Cultural Village Foundation, in an initiative that aims to promote cultural and educational exchange, through a series of musical and training activities.
The evening comes at the end of a joint program that includes a series of cultural exchange activities, including educational sessions, rehearsals and workshops at the Qatar Music Academy, with the participation of musicians from the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, allowing Colombian youth to develop their musical skills and exchange experiences with musicians and students in Qatar, in addition to meetings and direct interaction with the Academy's students, as part of enhancing artistic communication between the young generations of the two countries.
The program includes a range of works drawn from Colombian musical heritage, including La Pollera Colora, Fiesta en Torbaco, Mi Buenaventura, La Lorenza, Matildellina, Atlántico, Colombia Tierra Querida, as well as a number of internationally recognized musicians.
The initiative reflects Qatar Philharmonic's commitment to supporting music education and providing quality opportunities for young talent to learn, train and perform together, as well as foster artistic communication between musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds.
The importance of cultural diplomacy in employing music as a tool for rapprochement between societies is also highlighted by providing spaces for interaction and knowledge exchange between youth and professional musicians, and introducing different musical traditions, beyond the boundaries of artistic performances to building sustainable cultural and human relations.
The initiative is part of the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Cultural Diplomacy Program, which aims to promote peace, social inclusion and artistic development through international cultural exchange, since its inception in 2011 and celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, providing children and youth in the most vulnerable communities across Colombia with opportunities to develop their artistic talents and participate in international cultural experiences.
Established in 2007, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra presents Western and Arab music inside and outside Qatar, seeking to inspire generations, encourage musical creativity and promote cross-cultural rapprochement.
