Al Daayen Municipality has announced a series of community activities centred around the henna plant as part of Qatar Sustainability Week 2026, including the distribution of 500 seedlings, educational workshops and a planting campaign at Simaisma Beach.
The initiative, organised by the Ministry of Municipality through Al Daayen Municipality in collaboration with IKEA Qatar, aims to connect sustainability with Qatar’s natural and cultural heritage.
Activities will take place between November 2 and 5.
500 henna seedlings to be distributed
Interactive gardening workshops about the henna plant will be held for school students at IKEA Doha from November 2 to 5 at 10:30am.
As part of the activity, 500 locally propagated henna seedlings will also be distributed to visitors.
The wider initiative encourages residents to learn more about planting and caring for henna while highlighting the plant’s cultural significance.
According to Qatar Sustainability Week organiser Earthna, Al Daayen Municipality and IKEA Qatar are working together to promote henna, or Lawsonia inermis, as one of the Arabian Peninsula’s culturally significant and resilient plants.
Henna's role in Qatari heritage
A discussion titled “Henna Roots in Heritage, A Horizon for Sustainability” will be held at Al Daayen Municipality headquarters on November 4 at 10:30am.
The session will explore henna’s cultural history and consider how traditional knowledge and native or locally adapted plants can contribute to contemporary sustainability practices.
Planting campaign at Simaisma Beach
The programme will conclude with a Henna Tree Planting Campaign at Simaisma Beach on November 5 at 10:30am.
Earthna’s official programme also refers to heritage seed collection and public engagement around henna as part of the wider initiative.
Qatar Sustainability Week 2026
Qatar Sustainability Week 2026 runs from October 31 to November 7.
Organised by Earthna Center for a Sustainable Future in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the nationwide campaign brings together organisations and communities through environmental activities, workshops, awareness campaigns and sustainability initiatives across Qatar.
