Qatar’s Producer Price Index for the Industrial Sector Falls 2.77% in August

Qatar’s general Producer Price Index (PPI) for the Industrial Sector stood at 111.10 points in August, falling by 2.77% compared with the previous month.

Data from the National Planning Council showed that the decline was mainly attributable to a 4.02% fall in crude petroleum and natural gas prices, in line with movements in global energy markets. The index comprises four main sectors: Mining with a weight of 82.46%, Manufacturing with 15.85%, Electricity with 1.16% and Water with 0.53%.

The Mining and Quarrying Sector recorded a monthly decline of 4.02% in August compared with July. This resulted from a 4.03% decrease in prices for the Crude Petroleum and Natural Gas extraction group, while prices for the Other Mining and Quarrying Activities group remained unchanged.

The Manufacturing Sector recorded a monthly increase of 2.40% compared with July, driven by higher prices across several industrial groups. Refined Petroleum Products rose by 14.30%, Cement and Other Non-Metallic Mineral Products by 3.06%, Rubber and Plastics Products by 1.54%, Beverages by 0.58%, Chemicals and Chemical Products by 0.51%, Basic Metals by 0.22% and Food Products by 0.15%, while prices for Printing and Reproduction of Recorded Media remained stable.

The Producer Price Index for the Electricity, Gas, Steam and Air Conditioning Supply Sector fell by 2.75% in August compared with July. During the same period, the index for the Water Supply Sector increased by 2.04%.
