Shura Council Holds Weekly Session and Praises HH the Amir’s Participation in Eighth GECF Summit in Moscow

The Shura Council held its regular weekly session at its headquarters in Tamim bin Hamad Hall, chaired by HE Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim.

At the outset of the session, the Shura Council praised the participation of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in the Eighth Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Moscow, emphasizing its importance in strengthening global energy security.

The Council also praised HH the Amir’s meetings in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, which addressed regional and international issues, foremost among them energy security and regional stability. It also highlighted His Highness’s working visit to Uzbekistan and meeting with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan, stressing the importance of these meetings in strengthening bilateral relations and joint cooperation.

Separately, the Shura Council expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the attack targeting a Qatari liquefied natural gas carrier while it was sailing in the Arabian Gulf. It affirmed that the attack constituted a serious threat to the safety of maritime navigation and the security of global energy supplies.

The Council renewed its full support for all measures taken by the State of Qatar, in accordance with international law and the Charter of the United Nations, to protect its assets, safeguard its national interests and ensure the safety of its vessels and crews, thereby contributing to regional security and stability.

HE Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud, Secretary-General of the Shura Council, then read the session’s agenda, and the Council approved the minutes of its previous session.

During the session, the Council reviewed a draft law on cloud computing referred to it by the government. It decided to refer the draft to the Committee on Health, General Services and the Environment for study and the submission of a report to the Council.

HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, Speaker of the Shura Council, informed the Council that the draft State General Budget for the 2027 fiscal year and the draft law approving the State General Budget had been referred to the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee. This was in accordance with Article 135 of the Council’s Rules of Procedure, which stipulates that the Speaker shall refer the draft general budget to the committee immediately upon receiving it and notify the Council at its next session.

The Shura Council also reviewed the government’s statement on the proposal it had submitted concerning the reduction of childhood obesity. It decided to refer the statement to the Committee on Health, General Services and the Environment for study and to report its conclusions to the Council.

The Council further reviewed a report on the participation of HE Dr Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, in the 300th session of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva, along with a report on the participation of HE Amina bint Youssef Al Jaidah in a meeting of the Palestine Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union held via videoconference. Both meetings were held last June.
