Qatar’s General Tax Authority (GTA) has introduced a fully digital route for taxpayers seeking reductions in financial penalties through its Dhareeba portal. Eligible requests may be processed automatically, with decisions issued within minutes where applicants satisfy the Authority’s approved criteria.
Applicants must first file all required tax returns, settle outstanding tax liabilities, and meet the service’s eligibility conditions. The process is completed online, with no visit to the GTA required, and each submission is assessed separately.
Taxpayers whose requests are approved must pay the revised penalty within 30 days of approval. Missing that deadline cancels the reduction and restores the penalty to its original amount. The Authority permits one reduction request for each individual penalty.
The service is intended to simplify applications and speed up processing while ensuring requests remain subject to the prescribed rules and conditions.
