Qatar has been working to the best of its abilities to tackle the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) since the infectious disease began spreading across the globe.

In addition to increasing its level of preparedness and monitoring, the country's health system used a proactive approach to detect, isolate, and manage COVID-19 cases in a timely manner.

As it continues its battle against the disease, locally, Qatar also extends its support beyond its borders to assist other nations hard-hit by the pandemic.

Since early March, the country has sent several tonnes of medical aid, including medical equipment and supplies to countries including China, Iran, Italy, and most recently Lebanon.

Moreover, Qatar has been helping out Palestinians in Gaza. Earlier, The Qatar Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza together with the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) initiated the process of disbursing cash assistance to as many as 100,000 needy families in the Gaza Strip.

During the holy month of Ramadan, the Committee is providing iftar and suhoor meals to several people in the quarantine centers in Gaza.

Yesterday, upon the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, QFFD sent additional medical aid to Iran, Qatar News Agency reported.

This adds to Qatar's earlier aid of about 13 tonnes that was sent to Iran last month.

Transported by Qatar Airways, the new shipment weighs at least 15 tonnes, QFFD said in a statement.

The shipment contains basic medical equipment and supplies.

This support comes under Qatar's continuous endeavors to run air bridges of urgent medical aid to countries where the virus has spread.

Director-General of QFFD, Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari said the continued support to Iran mirrors Qatar's active role in supporting brotherly nations to help them overcome the challenge and defeat the pandemic.

Meanwhile, health authorities in Qatar continue to implement the highest level of monitoring, detection, and management procedures to deal with the virus, the public has been advised to follow certain measures to safeguard their health.

For any queries, or concerns related to COVID-19 in Qatar, the public can contact a 24/7 hotline set up by the Ministry. The hotline number is 16000 and is toll-free.

Here's everything you need to know about the virus, including ways to protect yourself.
