Qatar has won a bronze medal at the 2026 International Chemistry Olympiad, which was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from July 10 to 19.
Muath Sharif Al-Hafnawi, a student at Ahmed Bin Hanbal Secondary School for Boys, secured the bronze medal while competing against leading secondary school students from around the world.
The achievement reflects Qatar’s continued efforts to support high-quality education, scientific research and the development of promising young talent.
Al-Hafnawi prepared for the international competition through an advanced training programme supervised by the Educational Guidance Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education’s Educational Affairs Sector, in cooperation with Qatar University.
The programme included theoretical and practical scientific training designed to strengthen the students’ knowledge and prepare them to compete at an international level.
The International Chemistry Olympiad is one of the world’s most established scientific competitions for secondary school students.
It provides a platform for identifying and developing scientific talent, promoting innovation and academic excellence, and enabling students to exchange knowledge and experience with participants from different countries.
The achievement also supports the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly its focus on education, innovation and the development of a knowledge-based economy.
