His Excellency Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman held talks with a delegation of Taliban headed by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the current situation in Afghanistan, in particular, the security and political developments.
The meeting emphasized that the safety of civilians is paramount and must be ensured through a peaceful transfer of power.

The session also underscored the need to enhance efforts to achieve national reconciliation and focus on a comprehensive political settlement. It stressed the significance of preserving the gains made by the people of Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, world leaders have highlighted Qatar's significant role in continuing intra-Afghan talks and making efforts to ensure the transfer of power is peaceful and upholds the interest, safety, and security of the Afghan people.

Earlier this week, Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs had released a statement calling for an immediate, comprehensive and permanent ceasefire in all Afghan territories.
The Ministry had reiterated the need to ensure a peaceful transfer of power, leading to a comprehensive political settlement that includes all Afghan parties to ensure Afghanistan’s security and stability.
