US Vice President J.D. Vance said the Trump administration’s agreement with Iran was clear regarding the easing of the blockade if Tehran stopped attacking commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking to reporters, Vance said Iran had committed to the understandings for about a week, before later beginning to fire at ships.
He said Tehran now faces two choices: either commit to the agreement or face a repeat of what happened.
Vance added that the situation would continue in this manner until the Strait of Hormuz is opened and Iran stops attacking ships.
He also said US President Donald Trump remains committed to ensuring the continued movement of commercial navigation through the strait.
Vance described the Strait of Hormuz as a vital artery through which large energy supplies pass to the world.
