The United Nations has strongly condemned the attack on the Qatari liquefied natural gas tanker, stressing the responsibility of all concerned parties to ensure the free passage of ships to and from the Strait of Hormuz.
During the daily briefing, the UN Secretary-General's spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, said that the UN Secretariat is deeply concerned about the increase in attacks on commercial vessels, for a number of reasons.
These attacks are a violation of the law, and lead to a further decline in freedom of navigation within the Strait of Hormuz, as well as causing a rise in the prices of basic commodities for everyone, especially those who are less able to afford these increases, he said.
