Doha Bank Stars League: Al Arabi Climb to Fourth After Valuable Win Over Al Sadd

Al Arabi secured a valuable 3-2 victory over Al Sadd in the match played today at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Week 5 of the Qatar football league, the Doha Bank Stars League. Pablo Sarabia scored twice for Al Arabi in the fourth and 14th minutes, while Oussama Tannane struck in the 47th minute; Roberto Firmino and Augustin Soria scored for Al Sadd in the 12th and 42nd minutes respectively. The victory lifted Al Arabi to nine points and fourth place following their second win of the competition, while Al Sadd suffered their first defeat and dropped to second with 12 points.

Al Arabi made an ideal start and imposed a clear advantage during the opening minutes, taking the lead in the fourth minute when Spanish forward Pablo Sarabia headed a cross from compatriot Rodri Sánchez into the net. Despite falling behind, Al Sadd sought to take control and equalised in the 12th minute when Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino met an excellent cross from Italian defender Alessio Romagnoli with a header into the net. Al Arabi quickly regained the lead after Moroccan midfielder Oussama Tannane played Sarabia through on goal, allowing him to score with a low shot to the goalkeeper’s right in the 14th minute.

Al Sadd renewed their attacking efforts, with Claudinho forcing the Al Arabi goalkeeper to turn a powerful shot from outside the penalty area behind for a corner in the 40th minute. Akram Afif then delivered a cross that Uruguayan midfielder Augustin Soria headed into the net in the 42nd minute, sending the teams into half-time level at 2-2. Two minutes after the restart, Tannane capitalised on a clearance by Al Sadd defender Tarek Salman and fired a powerful shot into the top corner to score Al Arabi’s third goal in the 47th minute.

Al Sadd attempted to respond, but Jassim Al Hail turned Akram Afif’s penalty-area effort behind for a corner in the 59th minute, while a well-placed cross from Younes El Hannach passed beside the post without Roberto Firmino providing the required touch in the 85th minute. Al Sadd could not equalise during the remaining minutes, and the match ended with a valuable victory for Al Arabi.
