Al Rayyan defeated Qatar SC 3-0 at Lusail Stadium in Week 5 of the Doha Bank Stars League. Roger Guedes opened the scoring in the 19th minute, while fellow Brazilian Gabriel Pereira struck twice in the 23rd and 54th minutes.
The victory lifted Al Rayyan to 13 points and provisionally moved them top of the standings, one point ahead of Al Sadd, who were due to face Al Arabi later in the same round. Qatar SC, meanwhile, suffered their third defeat after two draws and remained provisionally second from bottom with two points.
Qatar SC began on the attack and nearly opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Fayez Soleimani entered the penalty area and went one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but Portuguese defender Andre Amaro cleared his shot before it crossed the goal line. Despite Qatar SC's strong start, Al Rayyan proved more effective on quick attacking transitions, with Portuguese midfielder Otavio sending Roger Guedes through behind the defence to fire powerfully into the net in the 19th minute.
Al Rayyan doubled their advantage four minutes later when Gabriel Pereira received the ball on the edge of the penalty area and drove a powerful shot into the upper-right corner beyond goalkeeper Ali Nader. Qatar SC attempted to reduce the deficit before half-time, but Mahmoud Abunada saved a powerful effort from Spaniard Pau Prim in the 40th minute and then denied Ivorian forward Yohan Boli's low shot in the 44th minute.
Al Rayyan continued relying on counterattacks after the interval and scored their third goal in the 54th minute. Gregore passed to fellow Brazilian Pereira, who moved past Iceland international Aron Gunnarsson, went through on goal and placed the ball into the net.
With the result secure, Al Rayyan's coach made several substitutions to give reserve players an opportunity and rest some regular starters ahead of Wednesday's AFC Champions League Two match against Saudi Arabia's Al Taawoun FC. Qatar SC intensified their attempts to reduce the deficit during the remaining minutes but could not find the net, as Al Rayyan completed a 3-0 victory.
