Al Gharafa overcame Al Sadd 4-1 to retain their Amir Cup title in style at the Khalifa International Stadium on Saturday. The game was attended by HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
In front of 37,823 spectators, Al Gharafa gave Al Sadd a masterclass in attacking football. They led 2-0 against the reigning Qatar Stars League champions at half-time.
Ferjani Sassi opened the scoring for the winners in the 20th minute before Yacine Brahimi increased the lead in the 26th. He then made it 3-0 in the 62nd.
Al Sadd tried valiantly for a comeback, and were rewarded for their efforts when Javairo Dilrosum scored in the 87th only for Brahimi to score his game’s third goal in the sixth minute of added time.
It is Al Gharafa’s 10th Amir Cup title. They also kept their all-win record against Al Sadd in Amir Cup finals intact with an entertaining victory in Doha.
