Al Duhail defeated Lusail 3-1 in their match today at Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium, concluding the Week 7 fixtures of the Doha Bank Stars League.
Almoez Ali scored twice for Al Duhail in the 40th and 90+12 minutes, while Boubakary Soumare scored in the 90+4 minute. Rodrigo Moreno scored Lusail's goal in the 89th minute.
Al Duhail secured their third consecutive victory to raise their tally to 15 points and move into third place, behind second-placed Al Sadd on goal difference. Lusail remained ninth after their tally stopped at six points.
Al Duhail began the match with sustained pressure and created several chances. Krzysztof Piatek headed an Almoez Ali cross towards goal in the 13th minute, but the Lusail goalkeeper saved it before again denying a goal when Oumar Sekou went one-on-one in the 15th minute.
Al Duhail continued their attacking attempts, but goalkeeper Arsha Shakouri again excelled by saving Sultan Al Brake's powerful shot in the 21st minute before denying Boubakary Soumare in the 32nd minute.
Al Duhail waited until the 40th minute to open the scoring through Almoez Ali, who exchanged passes with Mobarak Shanan on the edge of the penalty area before sending a low shot into the net to the goalkeeper's right. The first half ended with Al Duhail leading 1-0.
Lusail showed a different side at the start of the second half and gained the upper hand. Farhad Ismail threatened the opposition goal with a shot that passed beside the post in the 64th minute, before Al Duhail responded with a similar attempt from Mobarak Shanan in the 68th minute.
Al Duhail won a penalty that was confirmed following a Video Assistant Referee review after Lusail defender Khaled Walid Mansour brought down Mobarak Shanan inside the area. Almoez Ali missed the penalty by shooting beside the post in the 74th minute.
Lusail's pressure resulted in an equaliser through Spanish forward Rodrigo Moreno, who received a precise cross from Farhad Ismail and placed the ball in the net in the 89th minute.
Al Duhail quickly responded with a second goal through French midfielder Boubakary Soumare, who converted an Oumar Sekou cross in the 90+4 minute. Almoez Ali then confirmed the victory with a third goal following a counterattack, going through one-on-one before shooting to the goalkeeper's right in the 90+12 minute.
