Al-Hilal achieved an exciting victory over its guest Al-Ittihad 3-2, in the match that brought them together on Saturday evening, within the competitions of the eighth round of the Saudi Football League, to strengthen its lead in the standings table and inflict its first loss of the season.
Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring for Al-Hilal in the 11th minute, before Morocco's Youssef En-Nesyri equalized for Al-Ittihad in the 22nd minute, while England's Ollie Watkins restored the lead for the hosts in the 30th minute, taking advantage of a defensive mistake to deflect the ball.
Dutch player Crescencio Somerville extended Al-Hilal's lead by scoring the third goal in the 64th minute, before his compatriot Steven Birkhvein reduced the difference for Al-Ittihad from a penalty kick in the 89th minute, but the latter's attempts to equalize did not change the result.
With this win, Al-Hilal raised its score to 21 points at the top of the standings, two points ahead of Al-Qadisiyah and Al-Nasr, who are in second and third place, while Al-Ittihad's balance was frozen at 17 points in fourth place, to receive its first loss in the competition this season.
